Terrafusa
Small production of high-quality wine from Mt. Etna, made from old vines grown at 870 meters above sea level on black volcanic soil.
Our Story
Sophie is French and Dino is from Sicily. They met in East London over a bottle of wine and soon became life partners. Over the years, they cultivated their common passion for wine, digging into regional differences, expanding their knowledge and sharpening their taste. During a holiday on Mount Etna where Dino’s family still lives, they spotted an old vineyard up for sale. They fell in love with the “alberello” old vines, the gorgeous plump grapes and the spectacular view of the volcano. They called it Terrafusa, a reference to the volcanic soil and also to the colourful, unpredictable nature of the island and its inhabitants. Three years later, Civetta and Storta were born.
Our wines
Civetta is our red wine made of indigenous grapes of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and white grapes of Carricante. We blend all of them like in the old days of Sicilian winemaking after a meticulous hand-harvest. The wine is then vinified with minimal intervention and aged in French oak barrels for about 18 months. The result is an incredibly elegant wine with a pronounced taste of wild strawberry, black cherry, a pinch of spices, underwood accent and a volcanic mineral finish. Like an intriguing woman, it doesn’t unfold all its secrets at the first rendez-vous and gradually reveals itself over the years.
Storta is a high-end rosé wine made of the same Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante grapes. Fresh and easy-drinking like most rosés, its complex taste combining floral notes and grapefruit makes it even more addictive. Only 2800 bottles of fine quality.
